In beach volleyball mental preparation is everything. When you are one of only two people and are defending an entire half of a volleyball court, you want to make sure that you and your partner know exactly what you are both responsible for on your half of the court.
Hi, I’m Stein Metzger and welcome to volleyball1on1.com. I was a 2004 Olympian, an 18 time AVP and FIVB winner, as well as a 2 time Manhattan Beach Open champion.
Before the play even happens make visual and verbal communication with your partner. It keeps you focused on the task at hand amid all the craziness going on around you. This was particularly true during the 2004 Olympics.
In this video my partner and I mentally prepare by calling out who is taking the middle on a serve. This gets us ready and avoids the dreaded “hubby-wife” play and the loss of a point.
