This youth club volleyball practice plan was from a practice we filmed with Gary Sato coaching his daughters club team in Carson California. The videos are extremely insightful as it is not often you get to see a coach of Gary’s reputation coach kids at this level. Gary has been coaching for close to 40 years now and his family is very involved with coaching youth volleyball with all 3 siblings coaching high school teams in Southern California.
Additionally what I like about this practice is that you get to see some coaching changes that are being used on the men’s National Team moved down the coaching chain and get used at this youth level.
The practice consist essentially of 4 parts:
Gary Sato Youth Multi Skill Volleyball Warm Up Drill With Progressions– This is a great warm up drill that builds skill while warming up the players. The drill focuses on teaching important volleyball fundamental skills of serving, passing and setting. The drill moves through several progressions and builds on itself as it does so.
Youth Over the Net Pepper Multi Skill Volleyball Drill with Progressions by Gary Sato – Another great drill that focuses on fundamentals and skills except this time there is less focus on serving and more focus on passing.
Get on the Bus Youth and Beginners Volleyball Rotation Drill by Gary Sato – The next drill teaches the difficult task of players learning to rotate successfully on the court. In this drill Gary’s Shares some unique ways to teach the process of rotating on a volleyball court. Again the drill is game like and builds skill.
Beginners Volleyball Practice Pulling It All Together Drills with Gary Sato – Finally Gary pulls everything that he has taught together in the great easy and fund drill that keeps the players moving, engages and learning the sport of volleyball.
