I learned volleyball hitting from Misty May’s father, Butch May. His tips for strong hitting are some of the most valuable pieces of information that I have ever absorbed, and today I’m gonna share them with you.

Hi, I am Alicia Zamparelli, 8 year AVP pro, 10 year volleyball coach and today I am going to teach you what Butch’s tip is. I use it every time I contact the ball.

As we all know hitting a volleyball is fun and it is also a critical skill to perfect. One component people often neglect is the follow through which essentially forces the ball down to the ground. Butch taught me that every time I contact the ball for a spike I should think about a high snap with thumb and forefinger down. It sounds simple because it is. It forces you to hit the ball down and into the court.
