Boys volleyball drills to help male volleyball players improve all volleyball skills including passing, setting, spiking, defense, blocking, serving and more.
This reading volleyball blocking drill helps blockers to better read the hitters arm as well as the setters to be better blockers. This is another warm up volleyball drill Dan incorporates on the net in game like situations in order to rapidly improve players skills. This is a great “reading the game” drill by improving the blockers vision and defensive covering.
another great volleyball warm up, the reading butterfly drill, forces the players to focus on reading the game. How this drill works is players call out what they are seeing. So for example you will hear the players calling: Ball, Setter, Ball, Hitter.
In this video Dan Fischer does a quick 1 minute volleyball warm up drill called Partner Rolls Volleyball Drill. The goal is to have your partner work on defense. They will accelerate to the ground in order to do this drill successfully. Be sure to check out the video from the office where we discuss this drill in depth and answer your questions.
The warm up 20 20 28 volleyball drill is one of our all time favorites. What this drill does is focus on both underhand and overhand ball control. For underhand the players get to pass, bump set and play defense. For overhand the players get to tip, set, roll hit and hit.
This series of videos contain Dan Fisher running the correction volleyball drill, one of Dan’s favorite drills. This is a great drill where you can work on almost every skill except serve reception. In this drill Dan is working on specific skills each individual player is having problems with.
The tweener ball transition volleyball drill is one of Dan Fisher’s favorites. The tweener ball drill focuses on running an in system offense from 8 to 12 feet off the net. Basically the ‘in between’ area of a good pass and a bad pass thus giving the drill the name ‘tweener’. The goal is to run a middle attack and make it part of your normal offense.
This series of videos contain the 3 ball wash volleyball drill for middle blockers. This great drill helps middle blockers with eye sequences and footwork. This helps middles with obvious game situation moves that often get neglected because they are not practiced successfully! Additionally it helps middles and blockers more successfully read the game, plus focus on watching the hitters arm swing.
Crunch Time Volleyball Drill is both team and coach favorite. When there is a draw in the “Little Italy Drill” the players move to the crunch time drill. The players have to kill 3 balls in a row in order to move out of crunch time and then go into a game with regular score win by two starting at a particular score, often 22-22.
Little Italy Drill is a version of the Italy Drill except for Juniors. The drill Bill picked up from the Italian national team before the Olympics. The drill is a version of the “Italy Drill” except that it uses 3 balls verses 4 balls! Great drill for team play and transition. To see all of…
Over the Net Pepper has become a very popular drill for all levels! The drill teaches over the head and below the head ball control. It also is great for teaching players how to interact together on the court and what their roles and responsibilities are on the court! This video offers some great insights into running the drill for juniors as well as verbal queues for coaching kids.
This incredible video and drill features Bill Ferguson working with a player one on one to improve their arm swing. It includes volleyball spiking technique from Bill, verbal queues, as well as step by step on how he teaches spiking! This video is a must for all club and high school coaches who teach youth and junior volleyball players.
Station Drills are one of the most effective way to improve individual skills. The problem with stations is you need space or it is difficult to do. What is so impressive about this practice planning is how they are able to do all these stations and work on all these individual skills on just one volleyball court.
Great video where we see Bill teaching junior players how to jump serve with this extremely effective jump serving drill. What I also like about the drill and video is what the coaches focus on and the verbal ques for teaching jump serving to juniors.
In the video Bill and the assistant coach work on technique for the two libero’s. What is interesting is the technique they teach is the same as what Jeff Nygaard was teaching the USC men’s middle in the morning. Some of the verbal ques include the “Staggered Step” meaning you have one foot in-front of the other so you can move forward quickly.
This is a great video where you see Bill Ferguson running the blocking trips volleyball drill for juniors. This drill is simple and extremely effective. What I like about the video is you see Bill teaching the kids correct technique as well as it is interesting watching him interact with the kids and push them to do it better!
over the Net Pepper Volleyball Drill has become a very popular drill which we are seeing in a lot of practices all the way up to the USA National Team. The drill focuses on both lower ball control (Passing / Setting) and upper ball control (spiking / tipping / shooting with control).

In this video Tom Black reviews the hitters vs. diggers drills and also goes into details regarding “Reading the Game Concept” as well as shares verbal cues for coaching defense and reading the hitter. This is a great drill and you really get an opportunity to see the work Tom has done in this area with other volleyball coaching pioneers like Karch and Hugh. Enjoy!
This is a warm up volleyball drill from practice 2 with LMU and Tom Black. In this video you will see his team doing the 4 corner warm up setting drill. This is a good drill to help all your players with their setting.

This series of instructional videos features the USA Men’s National team running Over the Net Pepper Drill. This is a great early warm up drill that builds skill and warms the players up for practice.
USA volleyball blocking trip drill. This drill offers a glimpse at the size of these guys and how big their block is. Now the videos really start to become fun even just as a spectator.
This series of drills is designed to improve volleyball passing and hitting as a team. These team volleyball passing drills are also progression drills meaning they build on each other. This means that skills and technique are improved more rapidly and players see results faster. These drills specifically focus on out side hitters!
Pro player and twelve year coach David Fischer presents an entire series of drills that can be done by one person with a ball and a wall. Work on the arm swing and get the most out of it using down balls. Add an extra skill by setting yourself while working on hitting against the wall.
