Boys volleyball drills to help male volleyball players improve all volleyball skills including passing, setting, spiking, defense, blocking, serving and more.
This video features the team working on float serving. The team is not a very good jump serving team and as a result moved more towards serving the jump float serve. In this video you will see how the coaches make this serving drill fun and competitive. Also you will start to see how the loud music in practice affects affects everything.
This is another “Tutor Drill” specifically for skills the coaches thought need work from “Tell the Truth Monday” video session. This drill is working on passing the float serve and rather than passing the serve overhand, using a platform to pass the ball. What the coaching staff observed is the offense tends to have better rhythm when this is done verses overhand passing.
The practice theme of the day is “Tell the Truth Monday”, what this means is the team reviews videos and looks for individual and team weaknesses that they can work on. The coaches then often add specific skill building drills called “Tutor Drills” to improve on those skills that need work. This video contains a tutor drill the coaches are running to fix and improve passing off spin serves.
In this video you will see the team running blocking trips. What makes this different from previous times we have filmed USC Volleyball practices is that the coaching staff has added hitting off the boxes. This gives a more real game like element and definitely improves the practice and drill.
This video features the conversation from the office regarding the volleyball exchange drill. The point of this drill is to warm up the players while still building skills and working on movement in transition. With the increased speed of the game transition movement has become more and more important.
In this video Wes and Andor talk about the volleyball tennis drill. This is a drill Wes likes to run at the start of practice to warm his players up. The drill also works on several skills including ball control, passing, movement, and reading. Also Wes like the drill because it sets a good tone for practice and gets his players competing early.
This is round 2 of the servers verses passers drill. This drill obviously works on serving and passing for the team. Add on to traditional serving and passing include the coach on the box entering in a second ball after the serve. This is done to increase the number of reps for the players plus have a controlled situation where coaches can work on specific things for the passers.
This video features Wes Schneider running the tough swings volleyball drill. Wes run this drill to simulate the tough situations, particularly the tough and large block his hitters will face in matches competing in the NCAA MPSF division. In this volleyball drill for hitters, his spikers have to hit against his 2 biggest blockers where the blockers know the ball is going to the hitter. (Hitter gets 4 out 5 sets!)
The next drill is servers verses passers drill. The drill consist of a serve followed up by an additional ball from a coach hitting on a box in order to increase the number of repetitions.
Wes Schneider Exchange Volleyball Drill is a great drill to help your team with all areas of the game while still warming up the players successfully. Some the the things we see players get out of the drill in particular include learning over head ball control meaning a control swing.
Spiderman dynamic volleyball warm up drill with Shawn Patchell works on stretching the players while immediately getting on the ball. It is a simple drill that works on a skill not often focused on during practice, namely passing low balls, plus it gets the team on the ball and touching the volleyball.
This volleyball movement drill helps with both passing and defensive movement. The drill teaches players to move in all directions without taking a negative step. This drill is great for players of all levels!
Shawn Patchell 10 high, 10 low volleyball defense warm up drill is a great drill to warm up your hitters shoulders plus work on defense and digging a low ball followed by digging a high ball with your hands.

Shawn Patchell 5 In, 5 Out of System drill is a drill that works on defense – reading the game and on the offense calibrating their attack. This drill can be run with just 1 coach yet allow the coach to accomplish an incredible amount. This video combines 3 videos for easy viewing.
This series of 5 videos features the 6 on 6 game like portion of practice. The drill is the 4 ball drill that features 2 serves, an out of system attack and then a free ball. The game is scored in such a way that the offense should sideout at 75% to score points while the defense should side out at 50% to score points.
Volleyball Tennis Drill is a movement and passing warm up drill Wes uses occasionally with his team before match days to have a little fun and get the team moving. The drill focuses and improves a number of different skills including but not limited to; passing, movement and reading.

AVCA Video Tip of the Week – Diggers verses Spikers. This is a great drill to help defenders play better defense by being better at reading hitters. The drill will help defenders look at attackers arm swing, shoulders and more so that they read better on defense.
The LMU 50 drill is used to wind down practice. Stats are kept for serving and passing accuracy.

This volleyball warm up drill is the continuous pepper volleyball drill.
This volleyball warm up drill is over head pepper volleyball drill. This drill will work on a lot of overhead digging reps as well as focus the hitters on getting their feet to the ball.
The next volleyball drill is the warm up setters pepper drill. This drill will improve setting, overhead digging and control while spiking.
The pass to hit butterfly volleyball drill works on the skills that every coach wants most, passing and hitting! In this drill the players pass the ball and then go outside for the hit. Super simple drill that Dan uses for warm up during practice. You will notice some changes in the tempo of the hits based upon how warm the players are.
The correction drill is a great drill to work on any skill except serve receive. What Dan likes to do on occasion is start that the players can only tip. This forces the players to work on their tips shots and work on getting better at defending the tip shot.
This series of videos contain one of Dan Fishers favorite volleyball warm up drills the Dig Set Volleyball Drill.
