The 3 ball wash drill basically involves 3 balls, a serve, a free ball, and a bounced ball that lands in area 5-6 with a high probability of the setter running an outside offensive set. The goal is to have the blockers, particularly the middle practice what will likely happen in matches as well as what they will be asked to block in matches. Again this goes back to Dan principal that you must practice that which you want to improve, an obvious concept that is missed by most coaches!
This drill was particularly successful in helping the coaches work with the middles on their eye sequence for blocking as well as reading the game on defense. This is just a great instructional coaching video that will teach any coach a ton!
Note we also have included 3 videos from the drill being run successfully.
