This video features 25-30 verbal cues and ideas when teaching volleyball passing. This video series features Pedro Brazao taking the players through a guided hard angle hit ball with a line block off a server to either player. If the defender does not dig the ball the coach puts in another ball. We were young guns too and in many cases brought a much much bigger cannon! :)” – Andor Gyulai – With a Bazooka

Yet there are six that are often forgotten: the Superior Oblique, Superior Rectus, Medial Rectus, Lateral Rectus, Inferior Rectus, and Inferior Oblique. Or, simply put: Your eyes. The aforementioned six…

The science of supplements and nutrition is light years ahead of when I first started taking supplements in 95 – 96 entering UCLA looking to win a National Championship. Since then over 20 years ago, the advancements in legal supplements have been so incredible it honestly feels like cheating if I compare to back then!

I was playing this weekend when my partner posted this video. I thought it displayed several excellent lessons for indoor volleyball setting that I feel the majority of coaches often miss, either because they do not play beach or simply haven’t been exposed to enough beach volleyball. Now, given that setting has been statistically determined…
Before you can change any skill on the court – passing, setting, hitting, anything – you must first change one aspect off of it: Your belief in yourself. A lack of self-confidence – often inaccurate and subjective – is far too common in young players, and it results in poor performances, which leads to a…

“Research increasingly supports the view that external focus affects motor learning by directing the attention to the outcomes of movements instead of the movements themselves. The goal is to make actions more automatic and reduce conscious control;” As coaches, we can all relate to the same, maddening question: Why won’t our athletes listen? Over and over…

So I turn 40 in a few months and I can honestly say I am in the best shape I have been in 10 years and playing some of my best beach volleyball ever. This is no accident but rather the result of hard work, research and finding experts in the fields of volleyball training, nutrition and injury prevention. Today I am going to share how you can do this yourself or help your player accomplish their own similar goals!
As you get older the toughest part is how to recover faster. The science and nutrition behind recovery is light years ahead of what was happening just 15 years ago for me personally while attending UCLA. Here is a list of my personal tips for recovery:
Often getting started is one of the toughest things to any training program and it is the reason most people fail. It takes 21 days to make a habit so how do you get motivated to last 21 days? When I started to train again for volleyball I weighed 253 pounds doing anything in the gym was both physically and mentally challenging!

High school volleyball season is brutal in that team matches start just weeks after the first practice. In this article I am going to quickly explore how we work with high school teams and coaches to learn 70-80% of what they need to know before the season begins.
In reviewing volleyball coaching as a whole “Reading the Game” is the biggest change in volleyball coaching in the last 5 years. In review “Reading the Game” is the skill I most often hear high school and club coaches struggle to teach and are most interested in learning. Yet the majority of experts are teaching “Reading the Game” wrong in my opinion! In this article I will review how the most successful fighter pilot in USA Airforce history may offer a better way and why!
In my previous life to Volleyball1on1 Owner / Coach I used to be a business consultant with my wife. We would consult 20-30 business owners a month and would offer advice for business success.
