Some people may not know but I started coaching volleyball at 16 with my high school team. Living in South Africa there were few experts and given the pressure of my friends, I had to learn fast! This progression drill I developed when I was still in college and I ran and own my 8 team club. This drill does a number of things that I think are critical for beginners.
1 – It forces players to have good form!
2 – It forces players to reduce excessive movement!
3 – It teaches an athletic stance at all times!
4 – If run and coached correctly players will learn to move effectively in a low stance!
5 – It teaches players to force the ball to the target!
6 – It can improve both setting and passing!
7 – Teaches players to call for the ball!
8 – It forces players to pass allot of reps in a very short amount of time!
And there is more but I am killing you with !!! 🙂
I also included a how pass video which will help you coaches see how I teach technique before the drill! I think this is critical. If your team as see this I feel before the passing drill starts you should ask or tell each player what they should focus on!
Happy passing! Also make sure you check out the next series and progression from here!
